Importance of safety: Camperdown’s SES unit ran an informative booth to remind attendees the importance of being prepared for emergencies through various activities.

The day featured a variety of activities for children and the young-at-heart to enjoy, including face-painting, sand art, balloon animals, and the chance to show off some cricket skills with the Pomborneit Cricket Club.

Assistant manager Nicole Eagle said the whole day was a hit with attendees, which numbered more than the previous year.

“All the little kids loved patting the cows, and they loved to be able to put the sirens on the CFA and SES trucks,” she said.

“They loved having a hit with the cricket ball with Pombo.

“What kid doesn’t love sand art and face-painting?

“I think the entire day was a hit.”

Attendees also enjoyed some free snow cones and sausages, with the sausage sizzle manned by the Camperdown Bowls Club.

The IGA show bags were also a hit on the day, with many families taking home a free bag of merchandise.

Mrs Eagle said attendance on the day was better than they were expecting.

“We were running around making up more show bags halfway through the day,” she said.

“We did bigger compared to last year, because we had a great turnout last year.

“We did it in the shop last year - we thought, with that turnout last year, we would take it outside.

“They exceeded our expectations.”

Mrs Eagle expressed her gratitude towards attendees for coming along to the Community Fun Day.

“As a staff, we love to see the kids having fun,” she said.

“Big shout out to Camperdown SES, Camperdown CFA, Russlyn Highland Fold, K and K Party Hire, Pomborneit Cricket Club, the Colour Angel, Camperdown Bowls Club, and all the staff who helped out on the day.

“The weather held up, which was good.

“That was what we were worried about – the weather turning nasty and no-one turning up – but I think everyone had a really good time.”
