A fun day out

A LARGE crowd of women made the most of a fun night out last Saturday, managing to raise funds for an important cause along the way.

A great day out: 146 women turned out for the Camperdown Football Netball Club’s annual Ladies Day fundraiser.

The Camperdown Football Netball Club’s annual Ladies Day saw 146 women in attendance over the night, enjoying drinks, live music and raffles.

Organiser Lily Eldridge said the event managed to raise $7418 for Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

“This year’s tally was super pleasing, considering the cost of living crisis, I was personally concerned around people’s ability to dig deep for the cause,” she said.

“However, the tally is the same around the same as previous years so as a club we’re very pleased and grateful for the generosity of all attendees.

“We’re very proud to donate that amount of money to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, as many people from not only our club but our community have been touched by Ovarian Cancer.

“We’re hoping our community’s funds can go a long way in establishing an early detection testing program for ovarian cancer.”

Ms Eldridge said highlights of the night included the auction, extending her gratitude to auctioneer Toby Kent and Camperdown businesses for contributing to the auction.

“Our bestselling auction items were four hours labour from WJR Carpentry and Maintenance, purchased by Kate Kent, and the Deep Blue Spa Experience, which was purchased by Kathy Hall,” she said.

“Other auction items, such as Merry People boots donated by Eldridge Livestock Transport and a handmade blanket donated by Caitlyn Fitzgerald, also sold well.”

Ms Elderidge said she was pleased with the turnout for the charity event, with attendees responding “wonderfully” to the evening.

“As the event kicked off at 2.30pm we still had roughly 60 women in the room by 11pm that evening which was pleasing to see,” she said.

“We were not sure how we’d go putting the music into the evening rather than during the day, but from all reports it was a success.

“Local singer Natalie Atkinson was fantastic and attracted many women and footballers to dance throughout the night.”

Ms Eldridge extended her gratitude to those who supported the Ladies Day, and said she is looking forward to next year’s event.

“This year was a wonderful outcome for our club, we’re lucky to be blessed with such a supportive community,” she said.

“A day of empowering women was once again a success.

“Each year we’re aiming to build on the previous year’s success and make it a day all women and businesses from the community want to be part of.”
