A ‘puzzling’ surprise
RESIDENTS and visitors to Camperdown may have been a little puzzled by the Rubik’s Cubes that appeared earlier this week.

RESIDENTS and visitors to Camperdown may have been a little puzzled by the Rubik’s Cubes that appeared earlier this week.
The large cubes, located in front of the Courthouse, are part of the annual yarn bomb by local textiles artist Monique Pope.
The art installation marks International Yarn Bombing Day.
Ms Pope said June 11, or around that date, is International Yarn Bombing Day.
“I remember seeing some yarn bombing in Melbourne one time and I thought it was amazing and that I could do it for our town, so I did,” she said.
“I’ve got lots of likes.
“It’s usually well-received.”
Ms Pope’s words ring true, with many people stopping and taking photos of the latest installation.
Ms Pope said the idea for the cubes had no reasoning behind it, only that she would have fun creating them.
“I don’t usually have a reason, I just come up with an idea and do it,” she said.
Previous yarn bombs include yarn flowers, pushbikes, fairy mushrooms, elm tree wraps, ninja-inspired masks in the Avenue, beanies on the bollards, crochet birds perched on benches, and covering chairs and light posts.
Ms Pope said she has not made plans for next year’s artwork yet.
“I usually see something or come up with something,” she said.
“Sometimes it’s based on what colour wool I have a lot of.
“I don’t usually plan this.”
