A RETRO-STYLED coffee van has been popping up at Lake Bullen Merri recently.

Camperdown residents may recognise the brown and cream van from other events as well, with the trailer appearing at the Mount Leura Hill Climb and, most recently, at the Rotary Markets.

The trailer belongs to Anto Di Santo, who runs her business Gluten House out of it.

Ms Di Santo, who resides in Glenorminston South, said she had hoped to lease a place to run her micro-bakery.

“It was so hard to lease a property and starting in there, so my husband suggested to me to just do a coffee van, or bakery on wheels,” she said.

“I said yeah why not, and here I am.

“I’m challenging myself and seeing how it goes.”

Ms Di Santo and her husband chose the van themselves, including choosing colours and the sign design.

She said her original idea was just breads, pizza bases, sourdough foods and Argentinian pastries.

“Now I’m doing more coffees and sweet stuff because I’m going to the lake, to the markets, and people are looking for something to eat with a coffee,” Ms Di Santo said.

“We’re just getting there.

“We like Lake Bullen Merri because it’s going to be my official spot this season; the people from the lake offered me the place to park there and sell coffee.

“I really appreciate the support of the people in the two; always when I make a post, they are going to my place and grab a coffee and bread.”

Ms Di Santo said local support has been “very important” to her

“I’m starting; I’m terrified, but people are always telling good things and supporting me by purchasing something,” she said.
