Action hots up in finals

DESPITE last weekend’s scorching temperatures, spectators witnessed some exciting finals matches in South West Cricket.

After wins in their respective games, Cobden and Pomborneit will now meet for premiership honours in division one this Saturday.

The elimination and semi-finals last weekend saw players contend with high temperatures and often windy conditions at various locations.

On Saturday, the weather conditions saw Woorndoo forfeit its game against Heytesbury Princetown at Camperdown Lakes Reserve, while Bookaar (higher-placed on the ladder) took the win over Camperdown after the game was abandoned at Cobden.

Sunday’s semi-final matches saw Pomborneit 8/145 win in a tight battle with Heytesbury Princetown 9/144.

And at the Cobden Recreation Reserve, the Knights won their way through to a second consecutive grand final appearance.

The Knights defeated Bookaar in a great game which saw them take the win via the Duckworth Lewis ruling.

Cobden 5/180 defeated Bookaar 9/194.

For the Knights, Jonty Robertson top scored with 66 from 113 balls in an innings that included six boundaries while for Bookaar opener Eddie Lucas top scored with 39, while Hamish Sinnott contributed 32 and opener Simon Baker 29.

In other grand final games to be played this weekend, Bookaar will face Pomborneit in division two while Heytesbury Princetown and Boorcan will meet in the division three final.
