Alex Dyson to run for Wannon seat again

AFTER a historic result in the 2022 election, Alex Dyson has announced he will once again answer the call of the community and run as the Independent Candidate for Wannon in an effort to get a better deal for South West Victoria.

Election: Alex Dyson has announced he will stand in the upcoming Federal Government election for the third time.
Election: Alex Dyson has announced he will stand in the upcoming Federal Government election for the third time.

In what will be his third federal campaign, the reluctant politician known for his positive style said he was once again encouraged by community members, including the Voices of Wannon group to throw his hat in the ring.

Mr Dyson aims to use the momentum from his last campaign where he, alongside over 500 passionate, local volunteers was able to shift Wannon into a marginal electorate for the first time in 67 years.

“Like most country people, I’m an advocate of not just complaining about problems, but rolling your sleeves up and making an effort to fix them,” he said.

“So I’m honoured the community has once again placed their trust in me to be their honest, local, and importantly- Independent representative in Canberra.”

To officially mark the start of his campaign, Mr Dyson will be holding a free public kickoff event at the Warrnambool Civic Green open to any community members who would like to join.

The event will feature local Wannon figures, performers, as well as federal Independent member for Goldstein Zoe Daniel, who will be able to share her insights into just how the region, and the country, can benefit from Independent Representation.

The event will be held on August 24 from 11am at the Warrnambool Civic Green.

“I’m thrilled that Zoe Daniel has offered to join us at our kickoff event in Warrnambool, and share how Independent candidates can bring insight and integrity to a political system that has been giving traditionally safe electorates like Wannon a raw deal for decades,” Mr Dyson said.

With the current margin at just 4 per cent, the likelihood of Wannon changing hands for the first time in almost 70 years is now a very real possibility.

While the next Federal Election date has not been announced yet, the latest possible date it can be held is Saturday, May 17, 2025.
