Angling club hosts annual presentation night
COBDEN Angling Club held its annual presentation night earlier this month at Thompson’s Hotel.

COBDEN Angling Club held its annual presentation night earlier this month at Thompson’s Hotel.
President Michael Merrett welcomed everyone to the evening recognising life members Davey Staggard, Les Blake and Russell Smith.
Visiting club members from Boggy Angling Club were also welcomed.
Mr Merrett congratulated all trophy winners.
“Our competitions and club events have been impacted by the COVID virus and inclement weather conditions,” he said.
Mr Merrett also thanked community businesses for their support with trophy sponsorship.
“You make this night the success that it is with your donations,” he said.
Mr Merrett also praised the work of Davey Staggard, Neville Robertson and Laurie Telford who do a “fantastic job, keeping the lake foreshore in pristine condition with their mowing and maintenance skills”.
He introduced the club’s new president, Bryan Poole.
Mr Poole also welcomed those in attendance and thanked members for having the confidence to vote him in to office.
He was sure the club would continue to be successful, saying “our members are so supportive”.
Mr Merrett also introduced councillor Jo Beard who congratulated the members and the club on their achievements.
He then handed over to secretary Les Blake to announce all trophy winners.
Mens trophy winners:
D Staggard - heaviest Redfin;
M Schulze - heaviest Murray cod;
M Merrett - heaviest crayfish, equally heaviest flathead, heaviest gummy shark, heaviest total weight for the year;
E Williamson - club trip No 6 heaviest fish in the sea from the bank, a whiting;
E Mousey - heaviest fish, a bream;
A Rantall - heaviest rainbow trout;
J Boyd - heaviest bream for the year, heaviest yellow belly, heaviest estuary perch, club trip No 1 heaviest fish a bream, club trip No 2 heaviest fish a bream, club trip No 3 heaviest fish an estuary perch, club trip No 4 heaviest fish a bream, club trip No 7 heaviest fish a bream;
R Smith - club trip No 6 heaviest fish a bream, equally heaviest flathead; and
L Blake - heaviest nannagie, heaviest whiting, club trip No 6 heaviest fish in the salt in a boat a whiting.
Ladies trophies winners:
J Nelson - heaviest bream, club trip No 5 heaviest fish a bream; and
M Boyd - heaviest bream, club trip No 4 heaviest fish a bream.
Junior trophy winner:
G Clarke - heaviest bream.
Special trophies:
Mounsey Memorial winner - A Rantall with a brown trout;
Cow Cocky’s Cup - winner R Smith with a bream; and
Lakeside Challenge - winner J Boyd with a bream.
Mr Blake thanked those in attendance, congratulating all trophy winners and hoped all anglers had a successful years fishing.
Mr Merrett once again thanked everyone for their support during his time as president wishing Mr Poole all the best as president of the club.
He reminded everyone meetings are held at the Lake Elingamite clubrooms on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8pm. New members are welcome and for those interested in finding out more about the club to contact secretary Les Blake.
