Apprentices to gain a boost
COBDEN and Camperdown Community Bank are helping to support young apprentices in Corangamite Shire.
Chair of the Community Innovation and Investment Development (CID) Chris Spokes encouraged apprentices to apply, with funding available to support apprentices living in the shire.
“I’ve only just come back on to the tools and working with the new apprentices and noticed the wage isn’t very good,” he said.
“We thought we could formulate some scheme or grant process.
“It’s literally just to give apprentices an injection of money each year.”
Mr Spokes said apprentices who apply must have a bank account with the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank.
He said applicants will be required to interview with a couple of board members about what they would do with the money as part of the selection process.
Mr Spokes said there would be at least 10 spots available for apprentices, but the number had not been confirmed yet.
“I’ve had a lot of feedback from people saying what a great idea it was,” he said.
“It’s for us to help people, but it’s also an investment in our future.
“The community bank is there for the community.”
