Art show hailed one of the best
THE Terang Art Show drew hundreds of visitors as the biennial event returned to showcase some of the best artistic talent from across the south west over the weekend.

Artwork lined the Terang College Hall with a vibrant mixture of student-made art in addition to exhibitions from some of the most prominent artists across the region.
Terang Art Show coordinator Margaret Moloney said she was thrilled with the success of this year’s event, with a large number of pieces on display and overwhelmingly positive feedback from patrons.
“I thought it went really well,” she said.
“We had some really good comments, and the judges said it was one of the best shows they’ve been to.
“The student work was wonderful, from the brightly coloured works through to the log cabins in the back room to the works inspired by 95-year-old Japanese artist Yayoi Kasuma – who the students had been studying.
“It was very well attended this year – I think having the student awards on Friday night brings the parents in, and that leads to people who may not normally attend an art show seeing how good it is.
“The kids just love the fact their parents and family are seeing their work displayed up on the walls – the ones winning awards are tickled pink with their certificates.”

Among the award-winning artists this year was Warrnambool’s Susan Sambell, who was named Best in Show with her piece ‘Flinder’s Ranges’, and Glenormiston’s Jess Fowler, who won People’s Choice for ‘The Fonz’.
“Second prize was Rob Scarborough, and third prize was Wilma Williams,” Mrs Moloney said.
“A highly commended certificate went to Britt Gow, and another highly commended was awarded to Ricky Schembri.
“There were seven students awards with Kaitlin Hill winning an Excellence Award and the Student’s People’s Choice Award.
“There was so much talent on display – and thank you to Terang College art teachers Jeanette Miller and Leah Boyd, it was brilliant how they put the student artwork together.”
