CAMPERDOWN Little Athletics Club celebrated a successful season, both on and off the track, at its annual presentation night last Friday.

The cooler weather and wind meant jumpers and blankets were the fashion accessory for the night.

The yearly presentation night is a great way to thank the club’s athletes, parents and committee for the season that was.

No matter if your child received a medal on the night or not, they should all be proud of the achievements made in the season; the club certainly is.

This season the club saw 1750 personal bests achieved, 5330 individual results input to results HQ and welcomed 130 athletes (the club’s biggest number in over 20 years).

The centre believes that everyone contributes to make it the strong, happy and fun centre that it is.

Every week athletes, parent helpers, age group managers and committee members do a great job to see events run smoothly and all children are supported to do their best, have fun, and learn skills that are the foundation of every sport.

Throughout the season there were some incredible results, many centre records achieved, and a fantastic amount of personal best achievements.

Camperdown’s athletes again showed how awesome they are, giving their best week in and week out.

It was great to see the development and growth of every athlete throughout the 15-week season.

It was also fantastic to have the opportunity to utilise the stadium this year for training, meaning that all athletes received a full season, all weather training and the ability to have fun, play games and connect with athletes in all age groups.

This year saw the introduction of a senior leadership group which resulted in bonds being formed between the centre’s older athletes and the younger ages.

The over-age athletes were also a brilliant support to the committee with the set-up and pack up and taking the warm-ups each week.

During last Friday night’s presentations, the centre honoured three very special centres volunteers.

The male Volunteer of the Year was Brad Paton and female volunteer Jane Hinds.

The contribution that these two have made throughout the year has made an incredible difference to the experience received by the centre’s athletes and has supported the committee to provide a great weekly event.

For the first time the centre (thanks to a generous donation from past athletes) gave out the Henk Gerbes’ Club Person of the Year award in honour of Henk, who was the Camperdown Little Athletics coach from 1977 to 1982.

The centre committee chose Krystal Roberts as the inaugural winner of this award due to her many years of support to the centre, its values, and to ensuring all athletes can do their best.

Congratulations to the incoming committee and thankyou to the outgoing executive and leaving long term committee members for their commitment to our centre.

Your time and efforts are appreciated.

The 2022-23 season award winners were as follows:

Thank you also to our committee and families who also donated prizes.

Congratulations to the five athletes who, based on their results at the western country region carnival (held in Ballarat in February) attended the Little Athletics Victoria state championships at Lakeside Stadium early this month.

The region carnivals are a great opportunity to experience different tracks, make new friends and as an optional extra to weekly competition, are a great way to experience all the fun and fitness that athletics has to offer.

Taj Cunningham, Thomas Mitchell, Aidan Conheady, Pippa Murphy and Ava Cunningham represented the centre with pride and determination.

A special congratulations to Aidan Conheady on his silver medal in the under 16 high jump.

The club hopes all families have a great break and looks forward to seeing everyone back at the track (Camperdown College sports precinct) in term four.
