TERANG College student Nick Castersen has qualified to compete in the discuss event at next Monday’s state athletics championships in Melbourne.
He earned his place after winning at last Thursday’s GWR Athletics in Ballarat.
“I feel privileged to represent Terang College next Monday and am really looking forward to the challenge,” Nick said.
Terang College was well represented in Ballarat, with 14 students qualifying however, due to a clash with the school’s Central Australia camp, a team of 10 was sent.
Seven of those 10 finished in the top three in their age groups on the day and five recorded personal bests – a great effort for a small school competing against much larger schools in the region including Ballarat, Warrnambool, Hamilton, Horsham and many more.
Those to finish in the top three were:
Tayte McMaster – 2nd 12/13 boys high jump.
Emma Hill – 3rd 12/13 girls javelin and discus.
Tayla Bella – 3rd 12/13 girls triple jump.
Harrison Hunter – 3rd 17yr boys discus.
Bailey Dennis – 3rd 16yr boys discus.
Oliver Delaney – 2nd 18-20 boys discus.
Zoe Hill, the college’s only year six student to compete, finished fourth from 12 competitors in the 11yr girls discus event.
Terang College finished the day in 17th place from a field of 45 schools.
