Author visits schools
STUDENTS from Noorat, Panmure and Cudgee primary schools recently gathered for a special visit with an award-winning author.

STUDENTS from Noorat, Panmure and Cudgee primary schools recently gathered for a special visit with an award-winning author.
The students descended on Panmure Primary School to meet with best-selling writer Nova Weetman to hear about her stories and writing process, and complete activities to strengthen their learning.
The initiative was possible thanks to support from the MARC Library Van, which services six small schools in the area.
The MARC Library provides a range of resources to approximately 300 students and 30 teaching staff across the six schools.
MARC teacher for Noorat, Panmure and Cudgee primary schools, Christine Howlett, arranges a visit from an acclaimed writer each year.
She also coordinates weekly lessons for the students in literature and exploring the latest book releases.
“We are fortunate that Mrs Howlett is so passionate about providing our students with wonderful learning opportunities,” Noorat Primary School principal Ilona Watkins said.
“We have had many quality authors throughout our involvement such as Tony Wilson, Clare Saxby and Leigh Hobbs."
“Each author shares their own approach to creating books and it’s wonderful for students to see the various processes used to find ideas, plan and write stories."
“For students to see a real author’s ‘writer’s notebook’, it makes the work we do in class more meaningful as they think about their own purpose for writing and audience.”
