Participants and horses braved the weather at Terang this week to produce a strong eight-race card at the Terang Harness Racing Club.

Local trainer Steve Lambert combined with driver Jason Lee to take out race seven with Bakers Bandit.

Given a perfect drive by Lee, Bakers Bandit was able to make his way through the middle of the field to pounce on the leader late in the race and claim victory.

Hamilton trainer Jim Barker took out training honours for the day, with a quinella in race one.

Sonarmi Joh won for his granddaughter Jackie Barker, while Barker’s son Rod drove Unspoken Love to second place.

Driving honours were shared by Jackie Barker and James Herbertson; both producing driving doubles for the day.

Herbertson was victorious in race five on Steel Ruler (with father Ashleigh Herbertson the trainer) and race six with Optimal for trainer Jason Ainsworth.

Jackie Barker celebrated in race one on Sonarmi Joh (for trainer Jim Barker) and race two on We Favour Rosie (for trainer Bec East).

Barker brought up her 500th career winner the previous night in Cranbourne – a great achievement for a young driver in the sport.

The next harness racing meeting at Terang will be held on Wednesday, October 2.

This will be a daytime meet and will include pony trots and other activities.
