TERANG’S Sue Kull is baking treats every day this month to help raise funds for Cancer Council as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Ms Kull began supporting Cancer Council more than 20 years ago after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“She fought breast cancer for five years; during which time I decided to help out with Daffodil Day,” she said.

“Each year it just progressed, and since she passed away I’ve lost so many friends and family, even two pet Labradors, to cancer.

“I just keep doing it in the hopes I won’t lose anyone else to it.”

Over the years Ms Kull has been involved in Daffodil Day, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Pink Ribbon Day and Relay for Life.

Last year she also shaved her head alongside 11-year-old Terang resident Elijah Quick to support children’s charity Variety.

“I just do what I can,” Ms Kull said.

“I know over the years I’ve been involved in fundraisers which have reached around a combined $100,000, but I haven’t kept touch to find out the exact total.

“It’s not just me, though, I’m just one of the many volunteers who hope we stop losing family members and friend to it.

“Cancer is such a wicked, cruel curse.”

Ms Kull has usually held a traditional Biggest Morning Tea event on the annual official date, but last year decided to take a different approach and sell baked goods throughout the month.

“I find it hard to host a morning tea because everyone is so busy on different days,” she said.

“I decided I would just do some baking and sell it to raise money that way, and it did quite well.

“This year I decided to up the ante a bit and I plan on baking something every day of the month which, so far, has worked out well, with more than $100 within the first week.”

Each day Ms Kull posts to the Terang and District Buy, Swap and Sell Facebook group for the first in, best dressed to snatch up the baked goods.

She has already made jars of tomato relish, Feijoa muffins, hedgehog with crumbled peppermint crisp, cheery ripe hedgehog and apricot cheesecake.

“I love baking; when I’m happy, I cook,” Ms Kull said.

“I’ve only been in town three years and I think I’ve already worn out some of my friends who have full freezers.

“So it’s good to be able to bake and fundraise for something so important at the same time.”

To donate directly to Ms Kull’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser online, which has already surpassed $100, visit www.biggestmorningtea.com.au/fundraisers/SueKull.

Ms Kull also encouraged everyone who is interested to host their own Biggest Morning Tea.

The official date will be held on Thursday, May 25, however anyone can register their morning tea throughout May or June at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au.

“Let’s raise as much as we can,” Ms Kull said.
