CAMPERDOWN’S Community Bank is selling Fight MND beanies as part of the South West Big Freeze fundraising efforts.

Branch manager Margaret McMaster said both the Camperdown and Cobden branches are proud to support the cause, which aims to fight against Motor Neuron Disease (MND)

“The champion for MND is Neale Daniher, champion footballer, who has very publicly tracked the debilitating effects MND has had on his life and he has devoted himself to raising funds and awareness to run clinical trials to find a cure for MND,” she said.

“Both branches have stocks of the beanies, but they sell out very quickly so for only $25 you are helping assist in this worthy cause.”

Sales will continue until closing time today, where any left-over beanies will be collected for sale at the Allansford Hotel Big Freeze event.

The event, which aims to raise $30,000 in conjunction with beanie sales, will feature a number of local sliders sliding into a pool of ice for the cause.

Other attractions include children’s activities, food, live music, raffles and auctions.

Organiser Sarah Dunn, who has been involved with the Fight MND charity for nine years, said beanie sales have been slower this year in comparison to other years.

“It’s been a bit slow this year; I’m not sure why,” she said.

“Usually they sell out quickly, but not at the moment.”

Five thousand beanies were provided to the two local branches to sell, with a target to raise $10,000 from beanie sales alone.
