CAMPERDOWN’S Infinite Health Co. is running fitness classes for those 60 and over to help build and maintain strength while doing simple exercises.
The exercises are designed to mimic everyday situations, building and maintaining a participant’s strength to help in preventing slips, trips and falls.
The idea came from the owner of Infinite Health Co. Nick Hose, and has so far been well-received in the community.
Personal trainer Melissa Pitman said the classes are a social place for participants, but are also somewhere they can feel confident, knowing when they leave they have worked towards staying healthy.
“If they come to a curb in the street or something like that, they feel confident without having to worry about tripping over or falling down,” she said.
“It’s a positive thing for them.”
The classes have already seen changes due to the high demand from participants.
“We’ve already gone from one class a week; now we do two classes a week, and it’s gone from being a half-hour class to being a 45 minute class just because they wanted to do longer and they wanted to do more,” Ms Pitman said.
Classes run each Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 9.45am.
Residents interested in joining can call into Infinite Health, or ring 5593 3229.
