Beyond expectation
FINISHING sixth on the Hampden League ladder exceeded many expectations according to Cobden’s senior coach Dan Casey.

FINISHING sixth on the Hampden League ladder exceeded many expectations according to Cobden’s senior coach Dan Casey.
“If you’d have asked at the start of the season where I thought we’d finish up after the home and away rounds, I probably would have said last or ninth,” Casey said.
“We had a lot of young players in our senior squad and to finish in sixth spot, and only just miss out on playing finals, is a remarkable effort.
“We had 11 kids play their first game of senior footy this season and they all held their own. They improved with every game and that’s not only good for their footy but also for the future of the club.”
Casey praised the efforts of not only the senior playing group, but all those who pulled on a Bomber jumper throughout the year.
“It’s been a terrific year for the club,” he said.
“We may not be up there playing finals but the success that we have had off the field reflects the culture at the club. It’s a great place to be around.”
Casey, who has been re-appointed to lead the Bombers once again next year, believes they can go one better next season and play finals.
“We’ll be working hard during the off season to try and get a few more locals back at the club, along with some new families,” he said.
“We have a team of 10 recruiters who will work together to enhance our football program. If we can add four or five to our senior list – possibly a ruckman, centre half back or even more midfielders – that would give us a great start to season ’23.”
