Big Build progresses
WORK has been progressing on the Salvation Army Housing Victoria (SAHV) Big Build project in Cobden.
Starting late last year, the former Tandarook House site, is being transformed to provide six units on site.
The project sees a mix of one and two bedroom units based on current infrastructure, within the same building envelope.
The development will feature 7-star energy rating, 5-star green rating, minimum floor area stands set by Homes Victoria and align with accessibility standards.
SAHV acquired the site about five years ago as part of an agreement with Corangamite Shire Council through a land swap with Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) to redevelop the site for the purpose of long-term social housing.
The Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build initiative contributed $1.7 million towards the project.
According to a SAHV spokesperson, architects BCBA Studio have worked closely with SAHV to repurpose the “previous aged care facility which required comprehensive upgrading to meet current regulatory requirements.
“Works are well advanced, and the project is slated for completion later this year,” the spokesperson said.
“Salvation Army Housing looks forward to delivering this excellent, badly needing housing outcome for the community of Corangamite Shire.”
