Big weekend for Lions
ROUND three of the Warrnambool Moyne and District Cricket Association proved a successful one for the Noorat Terang Lions.

The club’s first and thirds celebrated victories while Jack Kenna became the first Lions player to achieve a hattrick.
The firsts travelled to Koroit to take on the unbeaten home side and potential finalist in a one-day game.
Koroit won the toss and elected to bat and were off to a flying start.
Spin was introduced in the seventh over to curtail Koroit’s run rate.
Hugh Giblin, in his first game, got the initial breakthrough in the 10th over and struck again in his seventh over to remove the other opener when the score was on 64.
He finished with the solid figures of 2-31.
Isaac Toombs claimed Koroit’s leading run scorer for the season to get the Lions back on track with the score at 3-66.
Koroit steadied but the run rate slowed a little with spin twins Toombs and Tim Keane bowling in tandem and the wickets dried up.
Liam Geary and Charlie Scanlon, bowling as a partnership, stifled the batsmen, with Geary bowling four maidens to start his spell.
He finished with 0-10 from seven overs.
Scanlon took two wickets at the other end to finish with 2-12 from five.
Tyson Hay proved expensive in his opening spell, but his reintroduction back into the attack resulted in three wickets to end with 3-31 from seven.
Tim Keane ended with a wicket and Koroit was kept to 9-157 from its 45 overs.
Knee soreness prevented Dom Moloney opening with Toombs, while Bailey Kavenagh was promoted up the order.
The pair added 76 before a full toss resulted in the downfall of Toombs being dismissed for 56 off 68 balls with nine boundaries.
Kavenagh’s wicket also fell to a full toss when on 37 off 77 balls with three boundaries when the score was 118.
Hay fell cheaply for six and Stephen O’Connor went for four soon after and there appeared to be a bit of a wobble in the batting.
This hiccup continued, with Geary going for 29 off 43 balls with two boundaries and a six.
Max Heffernan’s dismissal for two saw the scoreboard at 6-138.
The experienced pair of Tim Keane nine off 17 and Luke Kenna 15 off 16 saw the Lion’s home at the end of the 41st over with four wickets in hand to remain undefeated.
This weekend the firsts will host Mortlake on the Terang Turf wicket with sides sitting on top of the ladder undefeated.
With 13 players unavailable on the weekend, this impacted on the second’s greatly when they played Dennington on their turf wicket.
They sent the home side in and were always under the pump.
Sam Munro played in this match, due to commitments at the Warrnambool Show, and was the most economical of the bowlers taking 1-21 from his nine overs.
All the other bowlers went at five or more runs an over.
Harry Schrama, playing his first game for the club, showed promise for the future with 1-50.
Other wicket takers were Andrew Battistello, Martin Wynd and Toby Roberts.
After 45 overs, Dennington set the Lions a target of 213 to chase.
Much rested on the top order and the side never recovered from 2-11.
Schrama (14) and Wynd (36) added 36 for the third wicket, but after the breakthrough there was a steady flow of wickets with the innings ending at 82 in the 35th over.
Their game this weekend will be at Noorat against Nestles.
This side will be strengthened by increased availability.
An undermanned third’s team made light work of Dennington with skipper Jack Kenna snaring his second six-wicket bag which included a hattrick.
Light on for bowlers, Kenna opened the bowling with Lewy Taylor.
Taylor made the initial break throughs to finish with 2-26.
Dean Abbott also took two top order wickets for figures of 2-14, however, Kenna led from the front bowling five of his six victims.
All his hattrick wickets were bowled with the last one just clipping the bail.
Father Jack Senior was able to witness the event, but didn’t realise Jack Junior had achieved this rare feat.
Kenna finished with excellent figures of 6-18, amazingly not his best figures as he took 6-10 last season.
With only 10 fielders, the Lions dismissed Dennington for 74 in the 20th over.
In reply, the Lions only needed 14 overs to pass the total for the loss of three wickets.
Lewy Taylor remained not out 36 off 41 balls, which included six boundaries.
Dean Abbott made 23 in an opening stand of 64.
First gamer and under 17 player Sam Lillico’s boundary achieved the win for the Lions.
This weekend they will host Nestles on the number two Terang ground.
The under 17s resumed their two-day match against Warrnambool and were in with a chance but needed early wickets.
This wasn’t the case as their total was passed with only two wickets down.
Seven bowlers were used, with Jordie Bailey taking 3-53.
Speedster Charlie Roberts was economical as well with 2-12 off six.
Other wickets takers were Max Heffernan, Jack Farrell, Sam Lillico and Hamish Molan whose six overs yielded 1-17.
The under 17s will host Spring Creek in a two-day game on the Terang hard wicket ground starting on Melbourne Cup day.
The under 15s played the very strong Allansford Panmure side at Panmure.
The home side batted first and made 4-153 from their 24 overs.
Single wicket takers were Flynn Gleeson, Lucia Clarke, Rylie McIntosh and Sonny Davis.
With the bat, Leo Beasley was the stand out with 30 retired off 57 balls while Ollie Clarke made 11 from 25 balls.
Opening, Hugh Kenna saw off the shine with six from 22.
The Lions were 5-81 from their 24 overs.
They also start a two-day match on Friday against Mortlake Cobden at Noorat.
Due to basketball last weekend the match against Northern Raiders was changed to a one-day game with no play last Saturday.
This Saturday morning they will host Mortlake Cobden at Noorat.
