In front of a home crowd last Saturday, the Tigers had a relatively quiet first quarter, kicking 2.4 to the visitors’ one behind, but stepped it up a notch in the second to add nine majors and go into the main break with a handy 73-point lead.
A further 11 goals in the second half, while containing the visitors to just a solitary behind, saw the Tigers finish the day on 22.18.150.
Nicholas Harding had a great day out in front of goals, booting eight for the Tigers, while Matthew Drayton added four and Oliver Rial and Rhys Ziegelaar contributed with two each.
Kyle Clemmens, Nick Duynhoven, Gus Hawkes, Jack Hookway, Sam Rial and Brad Salmon each added a goal to the board.
Among the best were Matthew Drayton, Brenton De Jong, Nicholas Harding, Brad Salmon, Thomas Leishman and Nick Duynhoven.
Simpson’s reserves sit third on the ladder, equal on points but just a percentage behind Birregurra in second.
Last weekend saw the Tigers enjoy a percentage boosting 122-point win over Apollo Bay, 19.20.134 to 2.0.12.
Jono Jennings added six goals to his season tally while Darcy Thorburn added four, Cody Mason contributed two for the day and Shaun Guy, Jack Hawkes, Andrew Irwin, Rohan Johns, Brodie Neale, Sam Newcombe and David Weel contributed one apiece.
Among the best in a great team effort were Darcy Thorburn, David Weel, Rohan Johns, Sam Rix, Jason Kordupel and Shaun Guy.
Simpson’s under 18s went down by 31 points, 1.4.10 to 4.17.41.
Jack Balcombe, Geordie Ferrari, Billy Hawkes, Louis Janssen, Bodhi Crole and Hunter Bennett were best for the Tigers.
Isaac Holland kicked the team’s only goal for the day.
It was a mixed bag of results for the Tigers on the netball courts.
A grade – Simpson drew with Apollo Bay 42-all. Best players: Holly Duynhoven, Carol Arndell and Jessie Harding.
B grade – Simpson defeated Apollo Bay 39-18. Best: Megan Burbidge, Casey Tesselaar and Zoe Jones.
C grade – Simpson lost to Apollo Bay 26-31. Best: Leah Graham, Kara Beaton and Brianna Gass.
D grade – Simpson drew with Apollo Bay 35-all. Best: Lisa Arndell, Carly Newcombe and Georgia Arndell.
17 and under – Apollo Bay defeated Simpson 47-13. Best: Tahlia Daniels, Ella Arndell and Ismaela Ford.
15 and under – Simpson defeated Apollo Bay 27-26. Best: Kaylee Jansen, Amelia Daniels and Olivia Rhode.
13 and under – Simpson defeated Apollo Bay 43-9. Best: Lucy Ferrari, MilahCrole and Grace Bowman.
The final round of the Colac and District home and away season will see the Tigers travel to Gellibrand Reserve to take on Otway Districts.
