Matt Bignell will lead the Bulls’ division one season once again.

Bignell led the division one side to a grand final appearance as well as the South West Cricket Association’s Twenty20 title in 2023/24.

He made 284 runs for the season at 35.50 and took 14 wickets at 22.64 and made great strides as a leader.

Club president Dave Murphy said he was thrilled to reappoint Bignell to the position.

“It was fantastic to have Matty back at the club last season and a very easy decision to have him in the role once again,” Murphy said.

“We saw plenty of growth in his leadership throughout the year and we look forward to seeing where he can take the group.”

Bignell said he was looking forward to the upcoming season.

“Pomborneit feels like home and it’s an exciting club to be involved with; I can’t wait for the challenge of getting the best out of the team this season.”

Young batsman Josh Place has been named as division one vice-captain, giving him his first leadership role at senior level.

Place previously captained the club at both the under 13 and under 16 levels and the 22 year-old is seen as a key part of the club developing its younger leaders.

“I was really keen to get a young player involved in a leadership role, especially with experienced cricketers around in Grant Place, Tharaka Sendanayake and Dave Murphy for guidance,” Bignell said.

“Josh fits the bill perfectly as an up and coming player who is well respected by the group.”

Matt Richardson has been reappointed as division two captain for a fourth season after leading the team to its first ever division two grand final appearance last season.

Twenty year-old Charlie Voutier, also a previous under 13 and under 16 captain, will get his first senior leadership role with the vice-captain position.

Aaron Van Es will be the club’s new division three captain.

The left arm seam bowler, who will be a first time captain, first played for the club in the 2022/23 season having previously played for Mordialloc.

Veteran Tony Evans, division three captain for the past three seasons, will back up Van Es in the vice-captain role.
