Bloods dominate at home
TERANG Mortlake showed its true finals contenders with a five-point win over North Warrnambool last weekend.
In tough, wintry conditions at Terang on Saturday, the Bloods took on the second-placed Eagles and dominated from the first bounce.
The opening quarter saw the home side kick 2.4 while containing the Eagles to just two behinds.
The Eagles regrouped in the second term and were effective on the board, bridging the gap to just two points by the main break.
The second half saw both sides struggling to make any major inroads on the scoreboard, with the Bloods adding just 3.3 for the half while the Eagles were contained to 2.8.
Final scores Terang Mortlake 5.9.39 to North Warrnambool 4.10.34.
Rhys Buck, Ryley Hutchins, Jacob Moloney, Xavier Moloney and Xavier Vickers kicked a goal each for the Bloods.
Now sitting fifth on the Hampden League ladder, the Bloods’ reserves also celebrated victory on the weekend, defeating the third-placed North Warrnambool 6.7.43 to 3.5.23.
Best for the Bloods were Toby Harris, Josh Brown, Jack Lehmann, Liam O’Connor, Will Berryman and Jake Lee.
Ryan Tanner kicked two goals for the side while team-mates Josh Brown, Toby Harris, Thomas Justin and Jack Lehmann contributed one apiece.
The Bloods’ under 18 side celebrated its fourth win of the season, defeating North by 20 points, 6.7.43 to 3.5.23.
Tyler Vickers, Charlie Kenna, Hamish Hobbs, Ned Roberts, Darcy Abbott and Henry Carroll were named in the best.
Goals went to Darcy Abbott (2), Jack Fowler, Hamish Hobbs, Will Layley and Tyler Vickers.
It was a mixed bag of results for the Bloods on the netball courts.
Open – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 45-40. Best players: Emma Lucas, Bailee Overweter and Ava Grundy.
Division one – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 38-32. Best: Claudia Lee, Sarah Davis and Ellen-Rose Lee.
Division two – Terang Mortlake drew with North Warrnambool 24-24. Best: Lizzie Justin, Lily Lourey and Lucy Finnerty.
Division three – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 27-19. Best: Tess McKenzie, Harriet Place and Ava Nolan.
17 and under – Terang Mortlake defeated North Warrnambool 37-25. Best: Holly Jones, Sema Meric and Lara Clarke.
15 and under – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 25-24. Best: Maddison Wallace, Lyla Grundy and McKenzie Dillon.
15 and under reserves – Terang Mortlake defeated North Warrnambool 24-17. Best: Hope Kenna, Emma Hill and Sommer Jones.
13 and under – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 27-17. Best: Tiah Moloney, Harpa McMaster and Chloe Bouchier.
13 and under reserves – North Warrnambool defeated Terang Mortlake 22-10. Best: Charli Jones, Elise Jewell and Matilda Conheady.
Round 14 of the Hampden League competition this weekend will see Terang Mortlake travel to Gardens Oval to take on Port fairy.
In other games, Cobden will host Camperdown, Portland will be at home to Koroit while Hamilton and North Warrnambool will meet at Bushfield.
