TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers have started season 2023 in style, with last weekend’s 62-point win over North Warrnambool making it two from two.

Having defeated Camperdown by six points in the opening round, the Bloods continued their early-season form on Saturday against the Eagles.

Bloods senior coach Ben Kenna was happy with his side’s overall performance in what was wet and slippery conditions for the ‘Super Saturday’ game under lights at Terang.

“I thought our boys all did really well, particularly given the weather on the day and into the night,” Kenna said.

“I thought our backline did a particularly good job; the likes of Gus Bourke, Joe Arundell and Alex Moloney all combined well.

“We started well and kept that momentum up throughout the match. We made the right decisions at the right time and our game was well executed.”

Final scores were Terang Mortlake 12.11.83 to North Warrnambool 3.3.21.

Best for the Bloods were Gus Bourke, Joe Arundell, Alexander Moloney, Darcy Hobbs, Will Kain and Scott Carlin.

Kain contributed five goals for the game and was well-supported by Scott Carlin and Xavier Vickers with two each.

Ryley Hutchins, Daniel Kenna and Isaac Kenna scored a goal apiece.

The reserves also had a spectacular day out, taking the win by 53 points, 13.6.84 to 5.1.31.

Best for the Bloods were Matthew Baxter, Jordan Harris, Toby Harris, Jack Lehmann, Simon Densley and Jake Lee.

Matthew Baxter booted seven majors for the home side while Thomas Justin kicked two.

Will Berryman, Jake Lee, Jack Lehmann and Ryan Tanner kicked one goal each.

Terang Mortlake’s under 18.5 side wasn’t as fortunate on the weekend, going down by 71 points, 11.20.86 to 2.3.15.

Best for the Bloods were Tyler Vickers, Charlie Calvert, Ned Roberts, Damien Goddard, Hamish Hobbs and Mitch Hughes.

Goal kickers were Ned Roberts and Tyler Vickers.

The Bloods’ open netballers were defeated 43-47 with Johanna Glennen, Jacqui Arundell and Grace Wareham named best on court for the side.
