At the half-way point of the season, the Bloods now sit a game clear of the sixth-placed Bombers going into this weekend’s league bye.

Senior coach Lewy Taylor said he was thrilled with how his charges performed on Saturday, with all players filling their roles.

“Cobden are always hard to beat on their home ground so to come away with the points was fantastic,” he said.

“Our first quarters have been solid all year and last weekend was no exception; we were able to kick 5.1 for the opening term which really set us up for the day.”

Taylor paid special mention of the efforts of Ryley Hutchins and Scott Carlin in the midfield and Fred Beasley and Kane Johnstone who provided plenty of drive on the wings.

“It’s good to see so many guys back in-form and really putting in across the board. We’re happy to now be in the five which really shows the tightness of the competition.

“If we’re off by even five or 10 per cent on the day it can really hurt on the scoreboard."

Taylor said his side was keen for this weekend’s bye round and would then regroup for its round 10 clash against Camperdown at Mortlake.

“Because of how tight the competition is, every game and every win is crucial,” Taylor said.

“Camperdown will be another tough side and we're looking forward to the challenge.”

Final scores last weekend were Terang Mortlake 13.8.86 to Cobden 11.5.71.

Best for the Bloods were Ryley Hutchins, Scott Carlin, Joe Arundell, Kane Johnstone, Jacob Moloney and Xavier Moloney.

Hutchins booted three goals for the day while Rhys Buck, Darcy Hobbs and Jacob Moloney contributed two each.

Other goal scorers were Darcy Hutchins, Kane Johnstone, Ben Reid and Lewy Taylor.

The Bloods’ reserves side also sit fifth on the ladder – now two games clear of nearest rivals, Camperdown.

Last Saturday’s clash against the second-placed Bombers proved a difficult one for the Bloods, going down by 56 points, 4.2.26 to 12.10.82.

Thomas Justin, Jake Lee and Jack Lehmann each contributed a goal while among the best places were Jordan Harris, Zeke Reeves, Tom McKenzie, Thomas Justin, William Black and Will Berryman.

Round nine for the Bloods’ open netballers was a challenging one, facing the league’s second top side.
