With just percentage now separating third from fifth (with Warrnambool in third and Koroit in fourth), the race to the finals series is hotting up.

In the opening term the Bloods went out firing, booting home 5.4 while containing the visitors to just three behinds.

The second quarter saw the Magpies settle and apply greater pressure on the board, adding 3.2 while the Bloods managed just 1.3, heading into the main break with a 20-point lead.

This was extended to 31 points by three quarter time before an even final term saw the home side hang on for victory.
