Bloods runners-up in nail-biter
TERANG Mortlake’s under 16 footballers have finished runners-up in the Hampden League competition.
The Bloods put in a huge effort in last Sunday’s grand final at Reid Oval, falling less than a goal short of victory over the Koroit Saints.
The nail-biting match saw the Bloods get within two points of the Saints on the final siren, going down 3.7.25 to 4.3.27.
The young stars showed versatility and skill all over the ground, making good use of the ball and applying strong pressure on the Saints.
Best for the Bloods in a great team effort were Kane Killen, Hamish Molan, Josh Slater, Charlie Kenna, Caleb Bamford and Max Heffernan.
Molan was the main contributor to the scoreboard, kicking three goals for the day.
Under 16 GRAND FINAL
Terang Mortlake v Koroit
The Bloods’ senior and reserve footballers will each contest elimination finals on Sunday, while the 17 and under, 15 and under, and 15 and under reserves netball sides will all play this weekend.
The senior footballers will be coming off a confidence-boosting 29 point victory over Cobden last weekend, 17.14.116 to 12.15.87.
Coach Lewis Taylor was in good form, kicking four goals for the Bloods, and was well supported by team-mates Scott Carlin (3), Rhys Buck, Darcy Hutchins and Will Kain (two each), Isaac Kenna, Jacob Moloney, Harvey Roberts and Tyler Vickers with one apiece.
Best for the side were Scott Carlin, Dylan Jones, Darcy Hobbs, Max Lower, Samuel Crawley and Nicholas Shipley.
The Bloods will now face Koroit in the elimination round at Cobden.
After finishing fifth at the end of the home and away season, the Bloods’ reserves will take on Warrnambool in the elimination final.
The side will be keen to get back on the winners’ list after suffering a 38-point defeat at the hands of the second-placed Cobden Bombers last weekend.
Final scores on Saturday were Terang Mortlake 5.8.38 to Cobden 11.10.76.
Thomas Justin kicked two goals for the day while Josh Brown, Jordan Harris and Ryan Tanner each contributed a goal.
Best for the side were Jordan Harris, Tyson Densley, Jack Lehmann, Zeke Reeves, Thomas Justin and Will Berryman.
The under 18s went down to the Bombers by 68 points, finishing ninth on the league ladder with four wins for the season.
Netball
Open – Cobden defeated Terang Mortlake 83-45. Best players: Eboni Knights, Jessica Baxter and Jacqui Arundell.
Division one – Cobden defeated Terang Mortlake 36-29. Best: Pippa Barr, Lyla Grundy and Bailee Overweter.
Division two – Terang Mortlake defeated Cobden 47-26. Best: Ashleigh Hunger, Lizzie Justin and Sophie Conheady.
Division three – Cobden defeated Terang Mortlake 24-17. Best: Lydia Harris, Zoe Ritchie and Tess McKenzie.
17 and under – Terang Mortlake defeated Cobden 38-32. Best: Sema Meric, Molly Kavenagh and Millie Scanlon.
The team finished fifth on the league ladder and will now face Cobden once again in this Sunday’s elimination final.
15 and under – Terang Mortlake defeated Cobden 39-8. Best: Madelyn Clarke, Pippa Barr and McKenzie Dillon.
After finishing the home and away round fourth, this side will now play Koroit in Sunday’s elimination.
15 and under reserves – Terang Mortlake defeated Cobden 40-8. Best: Lily Guthrie, Mikala Madzarevic and Tahnee Sachs.
Finishing second on the ladder, the Bloods will take on Koroit in Saturday’s qualifying final.
13 and under – Cobden defeated Terang Mortlake 37-7. Best: Chloe Clifford, Zoe Hill and Poppy Moloney.
13 and under reserves – Cobden defeated Terang Mortlake 38-23. Best: Isabella Robertson, Charli Jones and Daisy Dillon.
