Bloods survive elimination

TERANG Mortlake’s senior and reserve football sides both survived close elimination rounds last weekend to surge forward in the Hampden League finals series.

In a tightly contested match against Koroit on Sunday, the Bloods managed to hang on for a 16-point win.

From the first bounce spectators were treated to close battle, with both sides working hard for possession and applying strong pressure all over the ground.

Just five points separated the two at the main break, with the Bloods extending their lead to 21 points by three-quarter time.

A three goals to two final term in favour of the Saints saw them bring the margin back to 16 points on the siren.

Final scores Terang Mortlake 13.10.88 to Koroit 11.6.72.

Best for the Bloods were Xavier Vickers, Will Kain, Nicholas Shipley, Jacob Moloney, Max Lower and Alexander Moloney.

Kain once again performed well in front of goals, adding five majors to his season’s tally, while team-mate Jacob Moloney added four.

Max Lower, Xavier Moloney, Nicholas Shipley and Xavier Vickers each contributed a goal.

The seniors will now take on Warrnambool in this Sunday’s semi-final at Koroit.

The Bloods’ reserve footballers held on for a two-point win over the Warrnambool Blues last Sunday.

The nail-biter kept the large crowd on edge in the second half, with just 13 points separating the sides at three-quarter time in favour of the Bloods.

The Blues fought back in the final term, kicking four goals to two to get within two points on the final siren.

Final scores Terang Mortlake 8.12.60 to Warrnambool 9.4.58.

Best for the Bloods were Charlie Kenna, Ryan Tanner, Jordan Harris, Tyler Vickers, Tyson Densley and Thomas Justin.

Josh Brown and Charlie Kenna kicked two goals each while Jordan Harris, Jack Lehmann, Ryan Tanner and Tyler Vickers contributed one apiece.

The reserves will now face Cobden in this Sunday’s semi-final at Koroit.

The Bloods’ 15 and under reserves have progressed to this Saturday’s semi-final round, to be played at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval from 11.15am.

After defeating Koroit 20-14 in last weekend’s qualifying final, the young Bloods will now face South Warrnambool.

Best for the side last weekend were Emma Hill, Lily Guthrie and Sadie Baker.

This Sunday’s semi-final matches will see the Bloods’ 15 and under netballers will face North Warrnambool in a must-win game from 9.15am.

Last weekend the team defeated Koroit in the elimination final, 24-18.

Best players for the Bloods were Lyla Grundy, Mckenzie Dillon and Ava Conheady.

Game times for this Sunday at Koroit are as follows:

Reserves - 11.50am, Terang Mortlake v Cobden.

Seniors - 2.10pm, Terang Mortlake v Warrnambool.
