The Bombers prevailed by the narrowest of margins in a thrilling rematch of last year’s grand final, duly converting the match winning goal in the final minutes to secure a 48-47 win.
Little separated the two sides throughout the contest, although it was the Saints who controlled proceedings on the scoreboard during the first half.
They opened with a 14-12 quarter to hold a two goal lead before both teams managed 10 goals apiece in the second quarter.
The Bombers started to make their move after half-time and quickly erased the deficit, adding 16 goals to 10 for the period to hold a four goal lead at three quarter time.
The Saints came hard late in the game and were able to tie the scores with only a handful of minutes to play.
Some tense moments followed before the Bombers eventually broke the deadlock, scoring the go ahead goal to ultimately claim a nail-biting victory.
Amy Hammond continued her strong season to produce a best on court performance, while defender Remeny McCann and Molly Hutt (20 goals) also played well at either end of the court.
This result gives the Bombers an eight point gap at the top of the table heading into their clash with Terang Mortlake (fourth), who has proven itself as the competition’s most improved side thus far.
In the other matches last Saturday, Cobden’s division one side defeated the Saints 39-22 on the back of strong games from Jordana Bateman (28 goals), Kayla Pouw and Morgan Nelson.
Division two also scored a victory, holding off Koroit 41-36, as Hailey Mahony, Sarsha Anderson and Hannah Justin were named in the best players.
The Saints prevailed in the division three clash 38-35, with Paige Turner, Matilda Mason and Caitlin Walsh playing well for the Bombers.
And in the junior contests, Koroit won the 17 and under match 52-21, the 15 and under game 42-40 and the 13 and under encounter 36-20.
