COBDEN’s senior footballers are holding on to fifth spot on the Hampden League ladder following last weekend’s 16-point win over Camperdown.

The Bombers are now a game clear of the sixth-placed Port Fairy and just half a game behind Terang Mortlake in fourth.

The Bombers got off to a strong start at Leura Oval last Saturday, taking a five-point lead into the second quarter and never looked back.

They extended the margin to 21-points going into the main break before adding three goals in the third while containing the home side to just one goal, one.

The final term saw the Magpies fight back, making better use of the ball in their forward line and adding five goals to the board while containing the visitors to just two goals, two.

The Bombers hung on for a well-fought 16-point win.

Final scores were Cobden 11.14.80 to Camperdown 9.10.64.

Best players for the Bombers were Grady Rooke, Sam Thow, Jack Hammond, Daniel Watson, Jack Hutt and Ben Berry.

Michael Koroneos and Jesse Williamson both kicked three for the day, while Brody Mahoney added two and Grady Rooke, Thomas Spokes and Daniel Watson one apiece.

Cobden’s reserves added win number 13 to their tally for the season to date and currently sit on top of the ladder, just percentage ahead of South Warrnambool thanks to a big 174-point win over the Magpies on the weekend.

Final scores were Cobden 26.21.177 to Camperdown 0.3.3.

Best for the Bombers were Joshua Hickey, Sam Darcy, Lachie Davis, Louis Cahill and Bradley Gillingham.

Martin Angus, Harry Darcy and Joshua Hickey all contributed four goals for the Bombers, while Tully Darcy, Lachie Davis, Brady Green and Luke Pekin each added two.

Jia Anderson, Jack Darcy, Sam Darcy, Bradly Gillingham, Nicholas Kemp and James McLeod kicked one goal apiece.

Earlier in the day, Cobden’s under 18.5s (sitting fourth on the ladder) kept the home scoreless while finishing the day on 21.6.132.

Thomas Roberts kicked four for the Bombers and was named best on ground alongside Gus Walsh, Angus Molan, Isaac McVilly, Jayden Gass and Jonty Robertson.

Goals also went to McVilly and Noah Sinnott (three each), Jayden Gass, Benjamin McGlade, Blake Mottram and Henry Roberson (two each), while Brodie Foster, Tyler Humphrey and Gus Walsh kicked one each.

Cobden’s senior netballers all had good wins over the Magpies, with the Bombers’ 17 and unders also taking the win.

The open side currently sits second on the ladder, a game and a half behind leaders South Warrnambool and a comfortable 14-points clear of third-placed Koroit.

Results were as follows:

Open – Cobden defeated Camperdown 75-35. Best players: Sophie Hinkley, Jaymie Finch and Emily Finch.

Division one – Cobden defeated Camperdown 7-28. Best: Jessica McGlade, Molly Hutt and Nikki Clover.

Division two – Cobden defeated Camperdown 43-27. Best: Maggie Conheady, Hannah Anderson and Courtney Gatens.

Division three – Cobden lost to Camperdown 23-44. Best player: Tayla Hickey.

17 and under – Cobden defeated Camperdown 65-21. Best players: Nikki Clover, Jessica Walsh and Kate Smith.

15 and under – Cobden lost to Camperdown 29-37. Best: Emily Hickey and Lila Bennett.

13 and under – Cobden lost to Camperdown 19-35. Best players: Tyra Sambell and Daisy Bennett.
