COBDEN is holding on to fifth place on the Hampden League after its 37-point win over Portland last weekend.

With only percentage separating the Bombers from Warrnambool and Koroit in sixth and seventh, the ladder is tightening up with six rounds played.

Playing in front of their home crowd, the Bombers got off to a slow start, allowing the Tigers to kick four majors in the opening quarter while adding just one goal, one behind to the board.

The second quarter proved just as fruitful for the visitors, who went into the main break with a 14-point lead.

Following allegations of verbal abuse, umpires walked off the ground just prior to the half-time siren.

Cobden Football Netball Club president James Green said that after discussions in the officials’ rooms between the on-field umpires and presidents from both clubs, it was decided the game would continue.

The Bombers began their comeback in the third term to get within eight-points at the end of the quarter.

A come-from-behind final term saw the Bombers thrill the home crowd, booting eight majors while restricting Portland to just one straight goal.

Final scores were Cobden 15.10.100 to Portland 9.9.63.

Best for the Bombers were Zac Green, Jesse Williamson, Jordan Fowler, Mark Marriott, Jack Hammond and Jia Anderson.

Cobden’s reserves also enjoyed a well-earned victory on the weekend, defeating Portland 24.18.162 to 2.4.16.

The Bombers currently sit undefeated on top of the ladder.
