Bombers ready for finals

AFTER finishing the home and away season in third place, Cobden’s Open grade netballers will face Koroit in this Saturday’s qualifying final.

The Bombers last met the second-placed Saints back in round 11 when the Bombers went down by 12 goals.

But team coach Sophie Hinkley is confident the Bombers can turn the tables on the Saints this weekend.

“We always have a great hit out against the Saints and the girls are really looking forward to this Saturday,” Hinkley said.

“We haven’t yet played them this season at full strength so it will be great to do so. We’ve been working on quite a few things in recent weeks and it’ll be good to see it all come together on Saturday and to see our hard work pay off.

“We were thrilled to finish the home and away season on a high last weekend; I think it was one of our biggest scoring games.”

The Bombers will head to Saturday’s qualifier full of confidence after their well-earned 38 goal victory over Terang Mortlake.

The Bombers defeated the Bloods 83-45 with Emily Finch shooting 50 goals for the match, while Jaymie Finch recorded 34.

Both were named in the best players alongside team-mate Grace Taylor.

While the Open side will hit the court running on Saturday, the Bombers will also be well represented in Sunday’s elimination rounds, with four teams set to play.

OPEN NETBALL

On Sunday, Cobden’s division one side will face North Warrnambool, 17 and unders will take on Terang Mortlake, 17 and under reserves will play Camperdown and the 13 and under Bombers will also face Camperdown.

While the Bombers’ senior football side finished out of the top five, the reserves finished second on their ladder and will face North Warrnambool in this Saturday’s qualifying round.

When the two sides last met, just over a week ago in round 17, the Eagles took the win by 14 points.

But with the slate now wiped clean, the Bombers will be seeking redemption and will go in to Saturday’s qualifier fresh off a 38-point win over the Terang Mortlake Bloods last weekend.
