DESPITE the wet conditions, Cobden’s senior footballers celebrated their second win from as many rounds with a 116-point triumph over Hamilton.
The Bombers flew high over the Kangaroos at Melville Oval, kicking a match-winning 23.16.154 while restricting the home team to just 5.8.38.
Senior coach Dan Casey was full of praise for his side, making particular mention of the mid-fielders who “stepped up and really set the tone for the day”.
“Hamilton’s forwards can be quite dangerous and I thought our boys really did well to contain them; I was thrilled with our overall efforts,” he said.
“To be honest I haven’t seen our boys play that well for quite some time; they really went out there and got the job done. They’re all enjoying playing together and now that they’ve played quite a lot of footy together it’s starting to show.
“Our fitness really kicked in during the second half, especially when Hamilton started to take it up a notch, and we were clean in the wet. It’s only two games in (to the season) and we’ve still got a long way to go but the signs are good. Hopefully this can continue.”
Among the best for the Bombers on Saturday were Patrick Smith, Brody Mahoney, Paul Pekin, Jack Hammond, Liam Loubey and Jesse Williams.
Pekin added five goals to the scoreboard, while Jesse Williamson booted four and Patrick Smith contributed three.
Other goal kickers were Jack Hutt (2), Brody Mahoney (2), Grady Rooke (2), Charlie Darcy, Oliver Darcy, Jack Hammond, Henry Robertson and Thomas Spokes.
The reserves also put on a big show in Hamilton, coming home with a 93-point win, 13.23.101 to 1.2.8.
Goals went to Martin Angus (4), Ashley Rosolin (3), Jack Darcy, Sam Darcy, Thomas Darcy, Luke Hickey and Louis Roberson.

The under 18.5s worked hard all day but fell seven points short of a win, with scores at 2.9.21 to 4.4.28.
Lachlan Herschell and Blake Mottram were the only goal scorers for the visitors.
Herschell was named in the best, along with Thomas Roberts, Bailey Vines, Angus Molan, Eli Dwyer and Kayleb Bignell.
