Playing in front of a home crowd, the Bombers worked hard all over the ground, going into the main break just one point down.

The third quarter proved a pivotal one for the home team, adding four goals to the board while restricting the visitors to just two goals three.

The Blues came back in the final term, adding three goals four behinds while the Bombers managed two goals, two – but it was enough to hang on for the win by a narrow margin, 8.10.58 to 7.13.55.

Sam Lucas, Tim Auckland, Patrick Smith, Ben Berry, Archie Taylor and Brody Mahoney were named among the best for the Bombers.

Berry and Michael Koroneos each kicked two for the Bombers, while Jack Hammond, Harrison Herschell, Smith and Archie Taylor contributed one each.

Now three from three, the Bombers are sitting in second place on the Hampden League ladder.

In the reserves, the Bombers enjoyed a 58-point win, defeating the Blues 10.6.66 to 0.8.8.

Joshua Hickey had a great day in front of goals, booting four, while team-mates Louis Darcy and Brady Green kicked two apiece.

Oliver Darcy and Tully Darcy also kicked one each.

Best for the Bombers were Tom Mahony, Matt Clarke, Louis Darcy, Joshua Hickey, Lachlan Herschell and Sam Darcy.

Netball:

The Bombers had mixed results on the netball courts last weekend, winning four of the nine games played.

In the open division, Cobden defeated Warrnambool 52-44. Best players: Molly Hutt, Jaymie Finch and Lara Taylor.

Senior coach Sophie Hinkley said she was pleased to see the Bombers bounce back on Saturday after a tough loss the previous week.

“It was great to get a win back on the board and I was really happy with how the team performed,” Hinkley said.

“Some of our younger girls got a taste of open netball and they really performed on the weekend.

“We were down six or seven in the second quarter but we adapted well and managed to come away with the win which was very pleasing.”

Hinkley made special mention of Molly Hutt who showed “great leadership” in the goal circle, and Jamie Finch who was also effective for the Bombers.

“We had faith that, together, those girls could get the job done when the ball went in to attack,” she said.

“This week we face Port Fairy and will almost have our full squad available. But the past two weeks, with three signature players away, has proven that we have depth and our younger players are more than capable of stepping up and being competitive.”
