Boost for Cobden Men’s Shed
AUSTRALIA Post has awarded grants to more than 150 grassroots community and not-for-profit groups across Australia, with each receiving up to $2000 in funding through its annual People of Post grants.
Totalling more than $290,000, the initiative sees Australia Post team members, including posties and Post Office workers, nominate local not-for-profit community initiatives that support some of Australia’s most pressing social issues in the areas of mental health, disaster support and resilience, Indigenous children’s literacy, and environmental sustainability.
This year, the funding available to individual groups doubled to be up to $2000, ensuring the grants are able to make a tangible and lasting impact in local communities.
Cobdenhealth, on behalf of the Cobden Men’s Shed, was one of 47 groups to receive a grant in Victoria.
The grant will be used to purchase a dust extractor and woodworking tools for use in the Cobden Men’s Shed.
With the majority of projects focusing on mental health, this initiative will help to foster community connection, resilience and awareness.
Australia Post general manager community and stakeholder engagement Nicky Tracey said the seventh year of the program would once again help local organisations continue to make a positive impact on communities across the nation.
“At the heart of this initiative is Australia Post team members, who witness first-hand the incredible work community groups do every day across Australia. Our People of Post grants give them the chance to give back,” she said.
“At a time where cost of living is high, it’s great that Australia Post can help make a lasting impact to some of Australia’s most pressing issues.
“We also know community groups are pivotal in fostering a sense of belonging and making a positive difference to individuals every day, which is particularly important at a time where one in seven Australians experience social isolation and loneliness.”
Since it launched in 2018, the People of Post Grants program has awarded more than 1900 grants totalling more than $1.5 million.
