DESPITE the wet weather, music fans were treated to a boot-scooting time at Lake Purrumbete for the annual Music by the Lake fundraiser.

The event, which contributes to Camperdown’s Good Friday appeal, managed to raise a total of $6500 and break the event’s fundraising record.

Major contributions include $1177.70 from Morning Melodies, $1000 for Pat Scott’s bird book, $820 for Shirley Sutherland’s paintings of Lake Purrumbete’s pelicans, and $3102.30 from sales, raffles, donations and competitions.

Prizes for the raffles were donated by Woolworths, Fonterra, Julie Foster, and others that donated prizes on the day.

Event organiser Ian Boyd said the weather made it difficult to gauge the crowd, especially with people undercover.

“It’s hard to say what the crowd was, but it was down a lot from previous years,” he said.

“We were trying to break the record, but the weather went against that.

“Everyone enjoyed and appreciated it, considering the weather.

“The hardest part was the weather, but most people found cover there, so it wasn’t too bad; some of the dancers got out and had a bit of a dance when it fined up a bit.”
