Bourkey’s welcomes brand new ownership
ONE of Terang’s most well-known family businesses has changed hands after almost 30 years of operation.
Bourkey’s Tyres has welcomed new owner Adam Pyres after Pat and Michelle Bourke felt the time was right to step away.
The business was established in 1995 by Pat’s parents, Billy and Kate Bourke.
Pat joined the business a couple of years later before he and wife Michelle formally took over the business.
He said it had been a privilege to be part of operating the family businesses.
“It was a privilege to have worked alongside my father for so many years, learning all the tricks of the trade,” Pat said.
“We have been lucky to have been apart of such a successful business for almost 30 years.
“It has been hard work but worth it.
“We have fantastic, loyal customers – we would have loved to have been able to thank them all individually for their support over the years.”
Pat and Michelle said a highlight had been being part of the wider community, with the business servicing not just Terang, but the wider district.
“It’s a great community we live in, for sure, and we have met some great people along the way,” they said.
“Every day was different and you would never know who was going to walk through the door.
“It’s not easy to let go but it’s time for a change.
“One door closes and another door opens.”
Over the years Pat and Michelle juggled running the family business while also raising their three children; Molly, Lillie and Paddy.
The kids were always supportive of the business, and understanding with the nature of call out work.
The challenges of operating a business and raising a family did not stop them from taking the time to support local.
Bourkey’s Tyres has over the years supported local schools and sporting clubs, donated tyres to the pony club to use as obstacles and offered an untold number of tyre changes – from family cars all the way through to some of the biggest tractors in the region.
Pat and Michelle said while the time was right for the business to change hands, they were pleased to know the Bourkey’s name would remain along with the service customers have come to expect.
“We are rapt to be leaving Terang with a tyre service as it is an essential service for our town,” they said.
“We welcome Adam Pyers and his family.
“We have had a change over period of a month with Adam, which has been a very smooth transition.”
Pat and Michelle also thanked those who had worked for the business over the years for their support and effort.
“Our two existing employees will remain working in the business,” they said.
“We would like to thank them for their dedication and strong work ethic over many years.”
