Bowlers enjoy new green

CAMPERDOWN bowlers enjoyed sunny conditions on their new green for their midweek pennant competition against Camperdown Golf Bowls last week.

Vicki Brebner, Barry Atchison, Kerry Henderson and Stan Adeney played against Carol Wilson and her team on rink four.

Carol’s team led by six shots after eight ends.

By the 16th end the scores were 15-all, with five ends to play.

Going into the final end the scores were tied at 17-all but Vicki’s team prevailed, winning 21-17.

Ron Simcox, Brad Wilson, Pat Atchison an Les Dorman were on the next rink and had a slow start to be 4-8 down on the seventh end.

They won the next nine ends to lead 26-8 with five ends to go.

They won three ends to two and took the match, 35-10.

Maria Van Someren, Henry Henderson, Graeme Chamberlin and Donna Watts played against Stephen’s team.

The Camperdown Giants jumped out of the blocks, leading 15-5 by the 10th end and by the 17th end enjoyed a 26-8 lead.

They then only won one more end in the last four to win 28-13.

Last weekend saw the first round of pennant bowls for the season, with Camperdown’s division one side hosting last season’s premiers, Winchelsea.

Bowling well, the visitors headed into the tea break with a nine shot buffer and then extended the lead to 25 shots to take the win 113-88.

The rink of Darren Coverdale, Barry Atchison, Harry Van Someren and Donna Van Someren were locked in a tight battle, leading until the 22nd end, but went down by two shots, 24-26.

Luke Wright, Darren Page, Vicki Brebner and Ludwig Gungle found themselves up against the rink of the up-and-coming Max Heaton-Harris.

Scores were level by the 20th end but the visitors pulled away to win the last five ends, 17-31.

The team of Ronald Cameron, Neville Salmon, David Wilson and Kelvin Rundle hit the front just before the tea break and stayed in the lead until the 23rd end.

The last end was fought between the two skippers, with Camperdown holding game until Winchelsea’s Stewart Williams drew the final shot and won the game for his rink, 29-27.

Matthew Brewer, Leonard Searle, Ian Henderson and Raymond Bourke played the in-form team of Rhys Jeffs.

They battled strongly all day to stay in touch but finally went down 20-27.

Camperdown’s division three hosted Simpson.

Conditions on the day suited the visitors, who went into the tea break with a lead of 20 shots.

Their form continued through the rest of the day, with Camperdown defeated 65-100.

Ron Absalom, Tom Hose, Pam Atchison and Gavin Cain had a close game against Simpson’s A. Swayne, coming away with the points 24-21.

Stan Adeney, Paul Brebner, Gordon Weller and Phillip Robertson went into the tea break with one shot difference but ended up going down to Brian Inglis’ team, 14-31.

The team of Ron Simcox, Gerard Broderick, Les Dorman and Jim Boyd played Les Neal, with Camperdown prevailing 23-15.

Les Pearson, Graeme Chaimberlain, Max Rippon and Ton Vermaas went down to Barry Newcombe’s team 12-25.

Camperdown’s division five team received a walk-over from Camperdown Golf, boosting the cheer squad for other teams.
