Bowlers return to the greens

MORTLAKE bowlers have returned to the greens after the festive season break, with mixed results last weekend.


The weekend pennant, round 11 results, were as follows:

Mortlake Blue (div. 1) def. Port Fairy Red 62-55 (away).

G Draffen lost to M Funche 17-22, D Grant def. T Englezos 28-11 and L Johnson lost to N Lowe 17-23.

Mortlake Blue remains in fourth place, five points behind City Gold and two points behind Dunkeld Blue in third.

Mortlake White (div. 2) lost to Warrnambool Red 51-71 (away).

M Heard lost to T King 14-22, A Wentworth lost to J Rundle 21-24 and J Rasmussen lost to G Johnson 16-25.

Mortlake White is currently sixth, with Terang Blue 10 points ahead in fifth and Lawn Tennis Red one point in front of Terang in fourth place.

Mortlake Gold (div. 4) def. Port Fairy Green 49-37 (played at Port Fairy).

D Murray lost to D Jasper 21-22 and A van Diemen def. J Blackmore 28-15.

Mortlake Gold is currently in sixth place, two points behind City Black in fifth and six points behind Timboon Brown in fourth place.

On the road to finals, there is only three games left in the home and away season.

Mortlake Blue (div. 1) at home to Dennington Jets - D Grant (s), C Goldsworthy, A Kubik, P Beardsley; G Draffen (s), P Summerhayes, C Baxter, S Pierce (m); L Johnson (s), D McNicoll, R Draffen, K Johnson.

Mortlake White (div. 2) away to Timboon Maroon - J Rasmussen (s), A van Diemen, J Marney, J Tanner; M Heard (s,m), P Palmer, S Richie, I MacDonald; A Wentworth (s), P Delaney, N Boyden, D Robertson.

Mortlake Gold (div. 4) away to Warrnambool Orange - D Murray (s), F Robertson, L Smith, D Caudle; A Puzey (s), L O'Shannessy (m), C Richie, K O'Shannessy.

Results from midweek pennant round 12 were as follows:

Mortlake Green (div. 3) def. Warrnambool Green 69-16 (home).

V Smith def. P Hayes 29-7 and A van Diemen def. K Brockett 40-9.

Mortlake Green is currently on top of the ladder, eight points ahead of second place Lawn Tennis Blue and 10 points ahead of third place City Zircon.

Mortlake Purple (div. 4) def. City Topaz 38-36 (home).

L O'Shannessy lost to L Kenna 13-18 and G MacDonald def. J Murnane 25-18.

Mortlake Purple is currently in second place, one point behind top of the table City Topaz and one point ahead of third-placed City Jade.

There is only two games left in the home and away season for midweek pennant.

Round 13 selections for next week:

Mortlake Green (div. 3) away to City Zircon - V Smith (s), G Draffen, L Smith, P Beardsley; A van Diemen (s,m), C Baxter, A Wentworth, D Robertson.

Mortlake Purple (div. 4) away to Koroit Yellow - L O'Shannessy (s), G Kenna, K O'Shannessy, S Richie (m); G MacDonald (s), R van Diemen, W McDonald, R Pasque.

Good luck to all the midweek and weekend pennant teams this week as they search for a spot in the finals.

Last week, the Tuesday social pennant side played Camperdown Black and went down 40-44 (away).

M Heard lost to B Wilson 11-29 and P Palmer def. F Salmon 29-15.

Mortlake is currently in fourth position on the ladder with a few matches left.

The club’s A grade champions, Sandra Richie and Colin Goldsworthy, battled against like kin in the WDPA Champion of Champions last Sunday at City Memorial BC.

Both Sandra and Colin had byes in the first round.

Sandra’s first match was with Gayle Swanson (Dennington) and unfortunately for Sandra, she was defeated 16-25.

A great effort for a first year champion.

For Colin, his first match was against David Clements (Dunkeld) and Colin defeated David 25-16 and has made it to the semi-finals next Sunday where he will face Scott Boschen (Koroit).

Good luck to Goldie next Sunday at City Memorial BC. Come along to support Colin - action kicks off at 9.30am.

A few reminders:

The B grade final is scheduled for this Sunday, January 28 at 1pm.

Women’s and men’s pairs entries close this Saturday, January 27.

Les Risk Day is on Sunday, February 4.

The twobowl mixed triples tournament is on Friday, February 9.
