Bowlers welcome new surface

LAST Tuesday saw Central Bowling Club’s division three side make the journey to Camperdown on what was a very cold morning.

Ruth Gstrein (pictured with club president Matthew Brewer and chairman Fred Salmon) had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon last weekend to officially open the new surface at the Camperdown Bowling Club.

There was plenty of talk and laughter to make the day warmer.

Rink four saw Ron Simcox, Brad Wilson, Pam Atchison and Les Dorman play June Dare’s team.

Ron’s team started red hot and were 17-0 after seven ends.

By the 16th end they led 28-6 with the famous five ends to go.

They only won two more ends but still won convincingly 37-11.

Vicki Brebner, Barry Atchison, Kerry Henderson and Judy Borthwick were next door on number three rink.

Vicki’s team also had a very good start, leading 15-4 after the seventh end.

Kathleen Collins’ team battled hard but Vicki’s team was too strong, scoring on 10 ends to four and winning 39-11.

On rink two Maria Van Someren’s team of Henry Henderson, Graeme Cham-berlain and Ray Bourke had a tight battle until the seventh end where they picked up four shots to lead 13-4.

Camperdown’s team handled the new green better and picked up a total of 34 shots to Central’s five, winning 47-9.

There will be no report next week for midweek due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday.

Thank you to all bowlers, partners and friends who wore pink, contributed and helped with the ‘pink day’ last weekend.

With all three sides playing at home, a pizza night will be held this Saturday night.

All members are asked to place their names on the list.

This is for bowlers, their families and social members. All welcome.
