BOWLS NOTES- magpies golf bowls club
CAMPERDOWN’S Golf Bowls Club division one side has finished runners-up in both midweek and Saturday pennant.

CAMPERDOWN’S Golf Bowls Club division one side has finished runners-up in both midweek and Saturday pennant.
With finalists in other divisions, pennant players should be reasonably happy.
Our opponents in both grandfinals, and their joy at winning, should give players the motivation to go one step further next season, and prove, not only to our opponents, but also to ourselves, that we are good enough to win premierships at any level.
With pennant over for the season, we can now look to finishing our club events and congratulate some of the event winners that have been successful over recent weeks.
Rowena Dunstan has won the ladies’ B grade title, defeating Elaine Waterfall 21-10, while Rene Wyles has won the president’s handicap title for the fourth time, getting home 21 shots to 12 over Pam Place.
Wyles has excelled in all forms of our game over many years, but to take out her 10th club championship is something that may not be repeated in the long-term future.
David Bateman, men’s champion for the first time, went on to narrowly go down in the Corangamite Champion of Champions final.
Also an amazing effort, with more club championship victories a definite possibility.
The club’s mixed pairs championship is down to the semi-finals, with the finals to be played next Sunday.
The four pairs remaining are Greg and Jan Edwards, Ilma Daws and Michael Brebner, Pam and Dennis Place and Ro Dunstan and Dan Stewart.
Both semi-final matches look to be close, with the final going any one of four ways at this stage.
The men’s section will commence itspresident’s handicap on Saturday, with the final also being played on Sunday, providing finalists are not also involved in playing the mixed pairs.
And with the pennant over, some of our male players have been in Bendigo for the Country Week matches played from Monday to Thursday of this week.
The Golf Bowls ‘Magpies’ had three combinations of four players representing the club, with the experience gained from such high level competition adding to our ability for next year’s push for another finals run, and a slightly better outcome.
