Bridge to link Timboon
IN a major boost for Timboon, a bridge will soon link between the Timboon Fine Ice Cream and Timboon Railway Shed Distillery and surrounds.
Timboon Fine Ice Cream owner Tim Marwood said the business had been awarded a “significant grant” from the Public Sector Business Enablement Fund (PSBEF), a joint initiative under the Geelong City Deal for the Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment.
The grant aims to bolster the region’s appeal by facilitating access and improving the visitor experience through landscape enhancements and the addition of visitor amenities.
The funding will kickstart the construction of the new Power Creek Footbridge and provide greater connectivity between the two popular tourist ventures.
As well as the new bridge, works will include removal of old stumps, eradication of weeds, introduction of native plants and embankment reinforcement to stabilise the area.
New pathways and picnic tables will also be constructed as well as the distribution of deep mulch.
Mr Marwood said additional funds have been raised through contributions from Timboon Fine Ice Cream and the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery, underscoring the community’s commitment to the project.
“This grant allows us to fully realise the potential of the space between our ice creamery and the distillery,” he said.
“With the Timboon Lions Club’s work on the barbecue area and the inclusion of the new bridge, we’re excited to see this precinct come to life.
“The removal of the poplars was a necessary step, but it’s the future beautification of this space that we’re truly looking forward to.”
Mr Marwood said the project had been at least three years in the making.
He said there had been a number of challenges to overcome to get to this point including rising material costs requiring persistent efforts to secure additional funding.
Mr Marwood said with the project he anticipated not only an enhancement of the aesthetic and functionality of the community space, but also contributing to the local economy by attracting more visitors to the area.
He said the project had received in-kind support from the Timboon Lions Club, Timboon Men’s Shed and Timboon Action.
Timboon Railway Shed Distillery owner Josh Walker said he was pleased to be a part of the project.
“It will link the two businesses,” he said.
“It will be a great asset for the community.”
The bridge is expected to be completed before winter.
