Camperdown Magpies fall short

CAMPERDOWN Golf Magpies Bowling Club’s division one Saturday team fell just short of victory last weekend.

By Support Team

The team was just three shots short of defeating Colac City, with the scores at 89-102 after 100 ends.

It was a great improvement by the Magpies, who went into the afternoon tea break with a two-shot lead.

After the break, the lead changed many times with City holding on for the win.

Golf will go into tomorrow’s home game against Simpson with a lot of confidence and a win is possible.

Teams are asked to bring a plate for afternoon tea.

Teams are:

Daryl O’Donohue, Graeme Fitzgerald, Chris Pearson and Billy Conheady (s).

Jack Paasse, Dan Stewart, John Molan and David Bateman (m/s).

Mick Mahony, Ash Sinnott, Peter Reilly and Glenn Winsall (s).

Greg Teal, Jamie Norton, Kevin Conheady and Craig Skene (s).

Saturday’s division two team travelled to Colac Central and came home with a 23-shot win, 105-82.

This win sees the team sitting in sixth spot on the ladder with four games left to play.

Golf is on 104 points with Apollo Bay 110 and Cressy 116 just above them.

Golf travel to Cressy tomorrow so a win would see them very close to a spot in the four, with Apollo Bay to play third-placed Birregurra.

Teams for tomorrow (bus leaves at 11.15am) are:

Greg Molan, Taj Merrett, Wayne Henry (m/bus) and Paul Richards (s).

Steve Lucas, James Henry, Andrew Anderson and Michael Brebner (s).

Ray Bateman, Noel Brebner, Kevin Russell and Leanne Fitzgerald (s).

Greg Edwards, Sam Whytcross, Terry Place and Chris McLeod (s).

Golf division four (3) played a home game against second-placed Cobden, with the winner holding top spot.

Golf led all day and with the rink of Ro Dunstan, John O’Donohue, Denis Place and Elaine Waterfall winning their rink 31-9 the result was never in doubt; eventually winning overall by 23 shots, 67-44.

The win sees Golf consolidate top spot on the ladder with 156 points compared to Cobden 133.

Tomorrow they travel to take on fourth-placed Cressy and a win would see Golf four (3) assist Golf’s other division four team who currently sit just outside the four in fifth place.

Teams are (bus leaves at 11.15am):

Sam Clarke, Val Coverdale, Pam Place and Peter James (s).

Noelene Tolland, Liz Riches, Janet Molan (m) and Rene Wyles (s).

Elaine Waterfall, Denis Place, John O’Donohue and Ro Dunstan (s).

Golf’s division four (4) team came up against Lismore/Camperdown and unfortunately, could not come away with a win, going down by 11 shots 55-66.

Tomorrow they are at home to Cobden and a win is a must if they are to play finals this year.

Teams (please bring a plate for afternoon tea) are:

George Bateman, Ella Blyth, Kona Kerr and Carol Wilson (s).

Zach Regan, Barney Dickson, James Wallace and Mark Wallace (s).

Andrew Whiteside, Keira Johnson, John Salau and Garry Brian (m/s).

Congratulations to Ella Blyth who plays her 101st Saturday pennant game, and to Denis Place and John O’Donohue who both play their 50th Saturday pennant game.

Golf’s mid-week division one team travelled to Simpson last Tuesday and came home with a 28-shot loss, 52-80.

The loss possibly ended Golf’s chance of playing finals as they must defeat Cobden next Tuesday and rely on Apollo Bay to defeat Colac City.

Teams are.

Noelene Tolland, Janet Molan (m), John Molan and Leanne Fitzgerald (s).

Ilma Daws, John O’Donohue, Michael Brebner and Rene Wyles (s).

Elaine Waterfall, Noel Brebner, Craig Skene and Pam Place (s).

Mid-week division three traveled to play bottom placed Colac 4 and came home with a 31 shot win.

The team managed to win two of the three rinks and have guaranteed themselves a spot in the finals.

Next Tuesday they travel to Colac again to take on Colac City.

Kell Edwards, Ruth Skene, Denis Place and Peter James (s).

Carol Wilson, Pat Scott, Norma Weller and Marg Stephens (s).

Val Coverdale, Terri Sinnott, Garry Brian and Liz Riches (s).

Unfortunately, John Molan was defeated by Apollo Bay’s Grant McLaren in the first round of the Champion of Champions last Sunday going down 25-16.

Good luck to Camperdown Bowling Club’s Vicki Brebner, who will play in the semi-finals of the Ladies Champion of Champions on Sunday at Colac Lakes.
