Carers enjoy day out in Timboon
CARERS from across the shire made the most of a free event in Timboon last week.

An Mpower organised event, residents were invited to head along to the Timboon Bowling Club for an afternoon of bowling and fun.
Mpower co-ordinator carer support Judi Mutsaers said between 30 and 40 people attended the event dubbed Carefoot Bowls.
She said members of the Lakes and Craters Band along with a number of service provider representatives attended the session.
Ms Mutsaers said it was positive to meet some new carers at the session, which had been an aim of the initiative.
“(Attendees) had a chat to mayor Kate Makin who came along, were serenaded by the band while we tried our hand on the green,” she said.
“Jo Wallis was kept busy providing free head, neck and hand massages and the club put on a great barbecue.
“So all-in-all it went pretty well, however we’re hoping to get more carers and community along to the Camperdown event.”
The second event will be held on Friday, March 15 at the Camperdown Bowling Club at 8 Thornton Street, Camperdown between 3.30pm and 6pm.
The aim of the events was to connect carers with service providers and support groups and to have some time out from their caring role.
Ms Mutsaers said community bowls clubs were a “conduit” to a range of networks in rural and regional towns and an untapped resource for raising awareness and reaching hidden carers.
“At the conclusion of each event we hope to find a team of carers to represent each club at a Carefoot Bowls tournament in Warrnambool to further raise awareness of carers and the work that they do,” she said.
“We want as many local service providers, carers and community members to attend as possible, will provide food, music, massages for carers, some fun bowling action and links to our carer support groups for ongoing assistance.”
Ms Mutsaers encouraged carers or community members wanting to attend either event to contact Mpower reception on 5561 8111 and register.
