Cash boost for Cobden groups

THE representatives of two Cobden organisations received a welcome surprise when they attended Progressing Cobden’s March meeting recently.
Thommos Hotel Social Club secretary/treasurer Betty McCormack was on hand to present both the Cobden Pioneer Park and Cobden and District Historical Society with $1000 cheques to put towards specific projects or general maintenance.
The social club, led by Russell McCann, Neville Millard and Betty, has a long-standing reputation for fundraising to assist in situations where money is needed to address particular needs.
Pioneer Park member Heather Walsh said she was delighted with the presentation.
“It’s a never-ending battle to meet our maintenance demands so this cheque will make it easier,” she said.
Cobden and District Historical Society members Jennifer Kripp and Judith Gribble agreed.
“Our building needs painting so this donation will help a lot,” they said.
Both these Cobden Racecourse Reserve organisations are open to visitors on the third Sunday of every month – at other times by appointment – and are being kept busy after a quiet COVID period.
Mrs McCormack praised both organisations on their ongoing involvement in the community.
“They deserve every bit of assistance because they put in countless hours and are contributing so much to Cobden and district – from both a tourism and historical perspective,” she said.
