TERANG will be a little more colourful in September after the Terang Progress Association cashed in on a $7706 grant to improve this year’s Colour Terang Festival.

The funding, courtesy of the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal’s (FRRR) Strengthening Rural Communities grants program (SRC), will be used to enhance the music and dance stage at the festival.

Terang Progress Association president Ken McSween said the group was grateful to receive the funding.

“Thank you to the FRRR,” he said.

“We’re thankful for any grants or donations that come our way because the whole premise of the Colour Festival was to have a family day where people didn’t have to put their hand in their pocket.

“These grants are what enable us to do that.”

The SRC program supported more than 131 initiatives across Australia, with groups sharing in more than $1.3 million.

FRRR’s Jill Karena said it was inspiring to see the determination and resilience of community groups and local leaders.

“We've seen a shift in project focus, with a significant increase in initiatives that address the wellbeing and sustainability of community organisations,” she said.

“The majority of these grants are for practical, infrastructure-related projects that will enable local groups in rural places to continue to provide vital services, and ensure community spaces are safe, secure and welcoming.”

Ms Karena said the grants were small but made a big difference.

“These grants may be relatively small, but they can make a mighty difference to a rural community,” she said.

“That’s why the focus of our end of year fundraising campaign is on small grants.

“All donations are gratefully received, no matter how small, as this program is needed more than ever.”

The Terang Colour Festival is set to return this year on the AFL public holiday; Friday, September 29 from 10am to 3pm.

Western District Newspapers will publish full details on this year’s event closer to the date.
