Cats fall to Tigers
JUST over halfway through the Warrnambool District cricket season, Mortlake remains on the hunt for its elusive third win.
The Cats currently sit 10th on the ladder, just above North Warrnambool and bottom side Wesley Yambuk.
Hosts Merrivale won the toss and elected to bat first on Saturday, posting 8/190 from their 45 overs.
Best of the bowlers for Mortlake was Jack Lehman who finished the day with figures of 3/29 off nine overs.
Wickets also fell for captain Todd Lamont (1/35 off nine), Josh Slater, Lachlan Higginson and Lachlan Wareham.
The Cats fell short in their run chase, posting 10/87 after 35.5 overs.
Lamont (30), youngster Josh Slater (11) and opener Corey Rounds (10) were the only three to reach double figures with the bat.
Mortlake’s division two side also fell to Merrivale.
Playing at home at DC Farran Oval, the Cats won the toss and sent the Tigers in to bat.
Merrivale reached 10/207 in 44.5 overs and in reply the Cats finished the day at 10/153 – with Hamish Hobbs unbeaten on 30 and Josh Jewell (29) the best of the batters.
