NEW Mortlake skipper Todd Robertson wants to see his team produce a disciplined brand of cricket regardless of the result in its opening South West Cricket match this weekend.

The Cats are set to welcome Cobden to D.C. Farran Oval, Robertson’s first game at the helm.

“Our biggest focus this year is to make sure we are playing a disciplined brand of cricket,” he said.

“We just want to see disciplined line and lengths with our bowling and patience with our batting.

“We’re pretty confident that with that sort of cricket we’ll come away with wins but if we don’t win those games, we want to see those things.”

Robertson is tipping Lachlan and Isaac Wareham to set the tone for the Cats in those facets of the game.

“Lachlan has been putting in a lot of extra work bowling wise and Isaac on the batting front is doing the same,” he said.

“Lachlan will spearhead our bowling attack and Isaac will do the same thing with our batting.”

The skipper hopes his players follow suit as they seek another finals tilt, but he knows they will face a challenge against a youthful Knights outfit in the opening round.

Cobden pushed the top teams last season but ultimately fell short of a finals berth in the final round against Noorat.

“They’re a bit of an unknown as far as recruit and players but it’s always a challenge the first game,” Robertson said.

Meanwhile, Mortlake’s division two and three sides will face arch rivals Woorndoo in their opening matches.

The division two game will be played at Mortlake P-12 College, while the division three game is fixtured for Terang’s second oval.

Ecklin will host Pomborneit at Ecklin in their opening round clash.
