POLICE have urged driver caution after a traffic collision occurred on High Street on Monday morning.

Terang Police acting sergeant Nick Roberts said driver error was believed to be the cause of the incident, which occurred at around 9.30am.

“A ute has collided with a truck outside the former Terang College campus,” he said.

“It was a head on collision in the school zone, with the cause believed to be driver error by the two-door trade ute as the driver has veered on to the wrong side of the road.

“It was headed towards Terang and the truck was headed in the Warrnambool direction.”

The ute was said to have clipped the front end of the truck, rupturing the truck’s fuel tank and causing a spill.

Act Sgt Roberts said there was no injuries stemming from the collision.

Temporary speed restrictions were put in place for a number of hours as crews worked to clear the spillage, and a replacement truck was brought in to transport the tanker which the truck had been carrying.

“The ute was written off and there was a fair amount of diesel leaked on to the road from the truck,” he said.

“It highlights the consequences of momentary lapses in concentration.

“If that occurred in a 100-kilometre zone the outcome would likely be very different consequences.”

Police have appealed for driver caution as the death toll on roads continues to climb.

At the time of publication 177 lives have been lost on Victorian roads, compared to 142 the year prior.
