CBN dinner looks to engage youth
COBDEN Business Network (CBN) members heard from guest speakers about how to engage young people and employment opportunities last week.

COBDEN Business Network (CBN) members heard from guest speakers about how to engage young people and employment opportunities last week.
Guest speakers, who covered topics of youth engagement and employment, included WestVic Staffing solutions chief operating officer Wayne Robertson, Corangamite Shire Council youth engagement co-ordinator Taylor Bonin, Skills and Jobs Centre careers practitioner Michael Absalom and Neil Porter Legacy’s Matt Porter.
Subjects covered funds and incentives currently available for both employers and employees, an overview of events and projects delivered, in progress and planned for the future and ways in which local businesses in Cobden and the South West can have an impact on employment and career choices for young people.
Cobden’s business and economic development consultant Laura Hultgren said businesses were informed of some of the ways they can help included offering more work experience, getting involving in more school-based options and holding an open night at their workplace with students and parentsin attendance.
Attendees also heard from Ms Hultgren, Corangamite Shire councillor Jo Beard and Sam Fox from the council who talked about the upcoming Grown and Prosper Corangamite plan which launches with a dinner event on Thursday, November 18.
“After the formal presentations, members and guests stayed around to chat to one another which was wonderful to see,” MsHultgren said.
“The room was buzzing with conversation.
“The Cobden Business Network executive team wished to thank everyone who attended on the evening as well as expressing a special thanks to the guest speakers.”
