Century for Frith
SCORING a century is every batsmen’s dream, but for Darren Frith last weekend chalked up century number 14.
The Camperdown batsman’s impressive record at the crease continued last Saturday when he finished the day unbeaten on 106, helping the Lakers to a strong win over Ecklin at Camperdown Lakes.
Frith’s innings included an impressive 19 boundaries.
He was well supported on the scoreboard by team-mate Enzo Molan with 52.
The Lakers finished their 40 overs at 4/259 and went on to contain the visitors to 9/169.
Frith was a welcome return to Camperdown a few years back, after playing for several other clubs in the seasons prior.
“Darren played for Camperdown back in the 90s and then went on to play for a few others around the district before coming back here a few years ago,” club president Rob McLaughlin said.
“He’s a popular and respected club member and to notch up century number 14 last weekend is pretty impressive.”
The Lakers’ division one side also celebrated a victory last weekend, defeating Woorndoo at home.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, opener Jye McLaughlin made one run before being bowled out, while fellow opener Harry Sumner was out lbw on 25.
Noah Riches top scored for the side, making a quick-firing 74 from 36 deliveries which included seven boundaries and a six 6s.
He was well supported by team-mates Ram Jangir on 34, with the team reaching 10/224 in the 40th over.
In reply, the Tigers fell short at 9/148 in the 49th over.
Best of the bowlers for the Lakers were Jye McLaughlin 4/17 from 10 overs and Shane Wilson 3/23.
The club’s women’s and under 13 teams are both continuing to improve each week.
“It’s great to see not only the improvements in these sides but also the enthusiasm from all players,” McLaughlin said.
“We are still looking for more players across all grades and welcome inquiries.”
Anyone interested in joining the club is encouraged to contact secretary Steven Fisher (senior men’s and under 13s coach) on 0439 329 216.
